Safe Sport
Alberta Deaf Sports Association (ADSA) is committed to providing a safe, respectful, accessible, and inclusive sport environment for everyone involved in our community. We recognize the importance of communication access and inclusion for Deaf and hard of hearing participants, including the use of American Sign Language (ASL) and other accessible communication methods.
All concerns related to Safe Sport or breaches of ADSA’s policies must be submitted through Alias – the centralized complaint management reporting tool. If a submitted complaint is determined to be Safe Sport related, it will be processed independently and confidentially through the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM). If the complaint is general in nature but not within the scope of Safe Sport, it will be triaged accordingly within ALIAS’ system and handled in a confidential manner by ADSA’s Executive Board.
ADSA is committed to fostering sport environments that are safe, respectful, accessible, and inclusive, where everyone can participate with confidence and trust. We promote communication inclusion by supporting ASL, visual communication, and other accessibility accommodations to ensure full participation for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. ADSA maintains zero tolerance for harassment, abuse, or discrimination of any kind.

The ABSSCM reporting mechanism does not provide emergency assistance. Safety is important to us. If there is an immediate threat to someone's safety, call 911.
When you click the 'Report a Complaint' button:
You will be linked immediately to the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM) powered by ALIAS Solutions where you will fill out the online complaint form. A response should be expected from ALIAS within ten business days, if not sooner.
ALIAS case managers are experienced in helping victims of maltreatment, professionally and personally independent of the Alberta Deaf Sports Association (ADSA). They know and understand ADSA's Safe Sport policies. They are qualified and experienced in navigating complaints of maltreatment.
The Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism does not handle association/club level complaints or concerns involving procedure, team selection, suspensions, match or misconduct reports, ice-time/ice allotments, or other complaint/concerns of this nature. These complaints should be sent to your local association/club according to their policies.
If you are unsure if your complaint constitutes maltreatment, please review the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC) and the ADSA Code of Conduct Policy. ADSA abides by the AB UCC to guide the organization, our members, and our organizational participants in ensuring the safety and well-being of those associated with all sports facilitated by ADSA.
Each person has a responsibility to help keep the sport safe. Reports of maltreatment that come to the attention of any ADSA Staff or volunteer will be directed to contact ALIAS using the "Report a Complaint" button. By providing you with this service, ADSA is reaffirming its commitment to protect its members by providing a safe and positive environment within the programs, business, activities and events of the Organization.
